Gateway to the Yangtze River Delta
Serving markets in China’s biggest economic zone.
Xinghua Port Group has a proven track record in managing two of China’s fastest growing ports. Despite the slowing Chinese economy, it has grown in strength. In 2010, the Group handled 7.7 million tonnes of cargo. Within five years, cargo volumes have swelled nearly 70% to 13.0 million tonnes in 2015.
Helmed by an experienced and dynamic management team, the Group operates two adjacent ports - Changshu Xinghua Port Co Ltd (CXP) and Changshu Changjiang International Port Co Ltd (CCIP).
Our ports are the main distribution hub for the Central and Eastern regions, which comprise the Yangtze River Delta. The Delta hinterland accounts for more than 30% or over one-third of China’s total foreign trade. It also makes up about one-fifth of China’s GDP.
CXP and CCIP
CXP started in September 1997 with a three-berth facility and an annual cargo handling capacity of 1.5 million tonnes. Since then, it has undergone several stages of development to the current eight berths of 1.7 km long with an annual cargo capacity of 10.0 million tonnes.
In early 2014, CCIP was acquired. This second port extended the continuous berth length under the Group’s management by more than a kilometre to 2.8 km. Berth size doubled to 16 berths with a total annual cargo capacity of 16 million tonnes. Warehousing space expanded by 60% to 186,000 sq metres.
The integration of CXP with CCIP has reaped much operational synergies. Despite the slowdown in the Chinese economy and keen competition from neighbouring ports, CXP has seen robust cargo growth. Additional capacity from CCIP has substantially boosted total port throughput by one-third.
Safety is the highest priority
Even as cargo volumes expand, the Group maintains the highest priority over the safety of its employees. Safe work practices have become a part of daily life at the port. Work processes are monitored. Controls and strict supervision have also been instituted to eliminate risks at the workplace. CXP has maintained OHSAS 18001 and ISO 9001 certification for quality management. The same certifications are intended for CCIP.
